LOUTH SCHOOL CELEBRATIONS FOR BOXING CHAMPION GRACE

Scoil Ui Mhuiri in Dunleer has always had a tremendous student cohort that excel in all kinds of areas – be it academics, sport, music or business.

“This year has been no exception. Already earlier in 2024, Eoghan McCabe went to Europe and did the school proud by winning an excellence award in Austria; TJ Molloy played with the under-15 Republic of Ireland soccer team in Serbia and was a huge asset to the team, scoring key goals,” said assistant principal Mr Peter Devin. “And this month it was the turn of fifth year and champion boxer, Grace Conway”.

In the last week, she has been in Croatia for the European Youth Championships and has come away, so far, with significant wins. On April 6th, she decisively defeated Rumania’s Luciana Petrache. On April 10, she came from behind to win against Polish contender Martyna Koczkodaj. Conway lost the first round outright against the aggressive Koczkodaj but came back in the subsequent rounds to defeat her opponent soundly. This win guarantees her a bronze medal at the very least and the former silver winner is now a two-time European medal winner.

“We here at Scoil Ui Mhuiri and completely delighted to see Grace soar so high in her discipline and wish her every success for the next phase of the tournament,” adds Mr Devin.
