LUKE DONALD, SHANE LOWRY, AND JUSTIN ROSE LEAD TRIBUTES AFTER 'DEVASTATING' GRAYSON MURRAY LOSS

Europe's Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald led the tributes to PGA Tour star Grayson Murray after he was found dead on Saturday. He was 30 years old.

Murray opened with a two-under-par 68 at the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial on Thursday, but he withdrew from the tournament on Friday with two holes remaining. He was three-over-par for the tournament and told his playing partners he was feeling unwell.

Players were informed of Murray's death on Saturday, and the tournament will continue in Fort Worth, Texas in accordance with Murray's family's wishes.

"We were devastated to learn – and are heartbroken to share – that PGA Tour player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words,” PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said. “The PGA Tour is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones.

“I reached out to Grayson’s parents to offer our deepest condolences, and during that conversation, they asked that we continue with tournament play. They were adamant that Grayson would want us to do so. As difficult as it will be, we want to respect their wishes.”

Donald was among those who paid tribute to Murray on social media. The former world number one wrote: "Truly devastating news that Grayson Murray has passed away.

"He asked me for some advice on how to play Augusta a few months ago, last week I saw him at the PGA Championship, life truly is precious. My condolences and prayers to his whole family that they may find some peace."

Two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson said: "Very sad to hear the news of Grayson Murray’s passing today. Life is so fragile… I was just hugging you at the Masters, telling you how proud of you I am. Thankful to have known you. My deepest condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time. He will be missed."

Avid golf fan and Olympic swimming legend Michael Phelps wrote on Instagram : "Thoughts and prayers to his family," while Shane Lowry and Justin Rose posted heartbroken emojis.

One-time PGA Tour winner Matt Wallace said: "Awful awful news. Terribly sad. Thoughts with everyone close to Grayson.

A spokesman for Murray's equipment sponsor Mizuno said: "We are saddened to learn the news of Grayson Murray’s passing. He has been a joy to work with and to be around since joining the Mizuno family this past year.

"The Mizuno Team will miss him greatly. Our thoughts and prayers are with Grayson’s loved ones during this difficult time."
