MAN UTD BOARD HANDED ERIK TEN HAG SACK DEMAND MIDWAY THROUGH FA CUP FINAL

Manchester United fans called on club chiefs to BACK not sack Erik ten Hag midway through the FA Cup final.

The Dutchman is under increasing pressure at Old Trafford with claims that the board could wield the axe and sack him after the game - regardless of the fact Man United beat Man City to win the trophy.

Taking to Twitter/X during the first half of the final, after United took a two-goal lead, one Red Devils supporter said: "Erik ten Hag can't go! This is phenomenal from Manchester United. Please INEOS don't sack our manager, he's finally gotten his team back."

Another added: "Don't sack Ten Hag! I would personally give him one more chance. I keep saying this. Look at the injuries," while a third wrote: "If Erik Ten Hag wins this don't sack him, renew his contract and give him the keys to the city."

According to The Guardian, Man United chiefs plan on sacking Ten Hag after the FA Cup final regardless of the result after a disappointing Premier League season. The Red Devils finished eighth in the table this campaign - their worst since the league's inception in 1992.

History will repeat itself at United should the board sack the manager following FA Cup success with Ten Hag's compatriot Louis van Gaal being relieved of his duties just weeks after winning the same competition.

Changing the manager at Old Trafford will be Sir Jim Ratcliffe's biggest move since he assumed control of football operations at the club after Ineos took over a minority stake. United have refused to comment on the story.

Ten Hag recently spoke to Dutch football magazine Voetbal International where he claimed Ratcliffe's Ineos Group had told him they "want to change everything and that they want to rebuild with me, this is what they told me directly".

Jeremy Doku netted a consolation for Man City late in the second half at Wembley but the Red Devils held on to win a second domestic cup under Ten Hag's stewardship.
