ALL-GIRL FOOTBALL TEAM OF 11 AND 12-YEAR-OLDS DESTROY MALE OPPONENTS

An all-girls football team has won a boys' league after going unbeaten all season and earning the 'invincibles' title.

Queens Park Ladies U12s finished with 18 wins, four draws and no losses in the league of 11 boys' teams and theirs.

The only girls team in the Bournemouth boys' Youth Football League, they scored 61 goals and conceded only 11.

Manager Toby Green appealed for the team to be allowed to compete last September.

League officials told him they had to play in a girls' league, but he insisted they were good enough to play against the boys.

And the girls, aged 11 and 12, have proved their manager right.

They topped the league away against Moordown & Southbourne several weeks ago, and clinched the 'invincibles' title last weekend with a 3-0 win against Lymington Town.

They will now be promoted to Division 2 of the U13s boys' Bournemouth Youth League.

Mr Green, 42, said: 'In the early days of the season, we would hear the boys sniggering, and I was thinking 'You boys have no idea what you're up against.'

'Being invincibles is a big deal; only one team in the English league have finished a season undefeated – Arsenal – and people still talk about that even though it was 20 years ago.'

Captain Olivia, 12, said: 'Beating the boys shows we can play just as well, if not better.'
